OTTAWA – FACE-OFF GAMES is pleased to announce Hockey Hardware’s partner status with The Carnegie Initiative (The CI) Summit 2024 taking place in Toronto, Ontario on January 30-31, 2024. The CI’s third annual conference is themed “For the Love of the Game.” It precedes Black History Month and the 2024 NHL All-Star Game festivities in Toronto.

“Hockey Hardware is proud to partner with The Carnegie Initiative Summit 2024. Hockey is for everyone, and so is Hockey Hardware,” said Billy Morrison, Creator of Hockey Hardware, and Owner of FACE-OFF GAMES. “It’s important to support this mission, so we can continue growing the sport we love by making hockey more accessible to everyone, and to honour the incredible legacy of Herb Carnegie.”

The CI was named in honour of legendary Hockey Hall of Famer and social justice pioneer Herb Carnegie. He is regularly considered the best Black hockey player to never play in the NHL. His career as a hockey player was limited due to discrimination.

Despite these challenges, Carnegie courageously and determinedly persevered and pursued his passion for the sport he loved, both on and off the ice. His lifelong efforts to break down barriers and grow the game were officially recognized in 2022, when he was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder Category.

The CI was co-founded by Herb Carnegie’s daughter, Bernice Carnegie, and Bryant McBride. Its mission is to make hockey inclusive, supportive, and welcoming to all, and to ensure opportunity and access to hockey everywhere.

Hockey Hardware is a fun, new tabletop game inspired by fantasy hockey. It recently launched on a crowdfunding platform called Kickstarter, which uses an all-or-nothing model to crowdfund creative projects.

The funding goal for Hockey Hardware’s Kickstarter campaign is to raise $125,000 CAD by 7pm ET on Sunday, February 18, 2024. This funding goal must be achieved for this creative project to receive its funds to move forward into production. If it falls short, no money is collected from the backers who supported it, and zero funds are transferred to the project creator.

As of this release, Hockey Hardware has already crowdfunded over $16,400 CAD on Kickstarter in approximately one week from 81 backers across Canada and the United States. These backers are excited about this game project, they believe in it, and they want to help bring it to life.

With about 25 days remaining until the campaign deadline, many more backers are needed for Hockey Hardware to reach its funding goal. Please consider making a pledge of any amount on the Hockey Hardware Kickstarter page to help bring it to life.

Registrants of The CI Summit 2024 will be able to visit the interactive Hockey Hardware exhibitor booth either virtually or in-person in “Herb’s Hall” exhibitor area at the Hilton Toronto Downtown. They will be able to see the game and its various Kickstarter Rewards and Add-on items on display, receive more information about Hockey Hardware, and learn how to make a pledge to back it on Kickstarter.

“I believe Hockey Hardware is more than just a fun, new game. I see it having a bigger role in the mission of growing hockey in a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive way,” said Morrison. “While Hockey Hardware is made for hockey fans, it’s designed to be played by anyone. No previous hockey knowledge or experience is needed. This can help improve access and exposure to hockey for people unfamiliar with it. These fun and entertaining experiences enjoyed by anyone playing Hockey Hardware can bring people closer to hockey, which can create new fans and grow the sport we love.”
