OTTAWA, ON – At 12:01am EDT today, Hockey Hardware: The Original Game was officially released by FACE-OFF GAMES on its new Shopify website. Customers in Canada and the USA can now buy their copy on www.faceoffgames.ca. With Christmas being only 54 days away, this fun, new game will make a great gift for that special hockey fan, hobbyist, or gamer in your life.
The online store opening of FACE-OFF GAMES and the release of Hockey Hardware marks a major milestone that is seven years in the making. Hockey Hardware creator Billy Morrison came up with the game concept in November 2018 playing fantasy hockey with his brother, Alex, and their friends.
"To officially open FACE-OFF GAMES and release Hockey Hardware is a dream come true," said Morrison. "But this is also just the beginning of a whole new chapter. I am very excited to continue marketing Hockey Hardware so it can be widely discovered and enjoyed. Watching people laugh and have fun playing this game is the best and most rewarding part of this whole journey."
ABOUT HOCKEY HARDWARE
Hockey Hardware is a fun, new hockey-themed game of luck and strategy that is dynamic, interactive, and competitive. Created by a Canadian hockey fan and made in Canada by a Canadian manufacturer, the game plays between two and four players ages 14+ and takes about 45 to 90+ minutes to play.
“Hockey Hardware is fun, entertaining, and unpredictable,” said Morrison. “No two games are the same and no lead is safe. Massive comebacks, major upsets, tight matches, and big blowouts are possible in every game.”
GAME OBJECTIVE
The objective in Hockey Hardware is to win the Champion's Cup Trophy Card by having the most Trophy Cards before the end of the Third Period.
Players compete for 11 Trophy Cards in total. Each Trophy Card represents a different Hockey Stat category. For example, the player with the most goals will earn the ‘Elite Sniper’ Trophy Card, while the player with the most hits will earn ‘The Enforcer’ Trophy Card, and so on.
Players earn Trophy Cards by rolling dice to collect as many Hockey Stats as they can, while doing their best to avoid rolling Adversity, and strategically playing 'Game Cards' to get themselves ahead, push their opponents back, or defend their Hockey Stats.
"Hockey Hardware is designed so that anyone can have fun and quickly learn how to play. No hockey knowledge or experience is needed to win," said Morrison.
INSPIRED BY FANTASY HOCKEY
Fantasy hockey was the inspiration behind Hockey Hardware. Morrison came up with the game concept in late 2018, while playing on a fantasy hockey app with his brother, Alex Morrison, and 12 of their friends. The group has been playing fantasy hockey since their university days in 2012.
Last year, Hockey Hardware successfully funded on Kickstarter after crowdfunding almost $50,000 in just 60 days from 270 Backers across Canada and the USA.
PROUDLY CANADIAN
Following that crowdfunding campaign, Morrison secured the services of a Canadian manufacturer in Montréal, Québec to make most of the game components.
“Manufacturing Hockey Hardware in Canada is perfectly fitting for a hockey-themed game. It's also unique in the game industry, and really sets us apart from other games that are often made in foreign countries and imported into Canada for retail," said Morrison.
"When you're looking at games in a hobby or retail store in Canada, or in your game collection at home, it's very rare to find a game product that is made in Canada. I want FACE-OFF GAMES and Hockey Hardware to change that."
